mail.com is nice. It has pop access and it's been around for years. I've been using mail.ru lately too. It hasnt' been around for as long, but it's got pop access.

Yes they are. Back in the day I actually made a hobby of collecting free email addresses. I had over 30 at one time. Most of them have ben cancelled because they stopped being free, and one of my favorites (mindless.com) is going to stop being free for all but the most basic services, so I'm going to have to stop using that too.

I use Hotmail as a spam collector when I signup for stuff on the net but even for that purpose its becoming more and more useless as so many services are refusing to accept signups which have a hotmail email address.

Eudoramail is probably one of the most underrated. Sure its more difficult to spell than hotmail, but there is no spam from eudora at all. Good user interface. I use it to sign up for crap or register at web sites and it has a very nice spam blocking should you get on any lists.

MyRealBox has POP3 AND IMAP capabilities, which make it FAR better than any other free email accounts out there (in my opinion). I use it through Outlook/Messenger and it works great! And, to boot, no spam has arrived in the ~1 year I've been using them. I highly recommend them.

edit: BTW, if you're editting for grammar, you might want to change the thread's title to "Are free email accounts dying?" and correct the spelling while you're at it. :p

I have been using mailandnews.com for free pop3 email for several years and now they are shutting down at the end of this month - sort of depressing. The one I really would hate to lose is softhome.net

For me, the best web email servers are:

Ureach.com [my favorite as it EASILY EXCEEDS EVERY email company out there in terms of functionality/features/stability (i.e. fax, voicemail, etc etc etc)]
Magicaldesk.com (another favorite....60 mb!!...very complete...almost as complete & functional as Ureach)
Qrio.com (10 mb, free fax send/receive)

Softhome.com (30 mb; SMTP access)
Myrealbox.com (10 mb; forwarding feature; SMTP access)
Onebox.com (4 mb; forwarding feature; fax/voicemail feature.....still vastly INFERIOR to Ureach.com)

With a combo of these companies.....you will be fully covered)
