Are flashable chips ever manufactured with extra space?

Hello,

OK, so what I mean is are there ever EEPROMs manufactured to hold X bytes but only flashed with Y bytes of data where Y < X and the rest is maybe all 0's or all 1's or just random fluff?

Also, are there ever EEPROMs flashed with superfluous data?

I mean are there ever EEPROMs flashed with data that the computer or subsystem doesn't absolutely need to function properly and only existed as an extra bell and whistle sort of thing?

Thanks.

It could be all of the above.

EPROMs are Not "Holy Relics" they are silicon chips and every manufacturer can do with them whatever they want to within the legal parameters.

If you have any functional purpose in these EPROM posts please state it.

If the functional purpose (Not hacking sensitive parameters of computers' hardware) is within acceptably parameters someone might be able to help, otherwise you are wasting your time and ours.

You can find wealth of info in pages like this. Do some reading and it might be that you would find an answer and know more about EPROMs.
