are email signatures presumptuous?

For business purposes, email signatures including name, title, company, and complete contact information are a must. The recipient must know who they are dealing with and how to contact them. That is basic customer service. And I'm not going to re-type that over and over again into the body of each and every email.
For personal purposes, I don't use an email signature.

For business, yes. If I have an email open and I have a question, I want to grab the phone and call the person, not take the extra few steps to go into my address book and look them up. It's just a few seconds, but repeated hundreds of times a day, it makes a difference to me.

Vic is dead on.

Personal: no signature
Business: signature with contact info

What if you use the same email account for both?
If using Outlook 2003 (likely similar option in other versions & Express) you can click on "Options" and "Email Signature" and choose from any pre-configured sig. So, you can add a sig in two clicks vs typing it each time.

Lots of times when I send an email people will want to call me in order to follow up to the email, so a phone number is a good thing.

i took mine out so they'd stop calling me. if they want to call me, they must go through the maze of customer service or our phone service first. i emailed you for info, i want an email response, damnit.

i got so sick of my phone ringing every 10 minutes... i get back to my emails pretty quick too.

I want (OK, need) people to be able to reach me ASAP if they need me. Much, much, much easier to have contact info in a sig than to make them look it up every time they need it. People are lazy as a rule.
