Are electric shavers worth the money?

Would you believe I never owned one ever? Well, I tried one back in the early 90's but with my THICK facial growth it was a craptastic experience🙁 I vowed never to buy one again.

However, that was like 20 years ago and I imagine there must be new and improved technology now.

Considering my thick facial growth I wonder if its worth it compared to my normal razor?

Any good ones that will not break the bank but get the job done?

my wife bought me a braun 760cc-4 a couple a weeks ago. i have a beard, so i use it just for my neck and cheeks. i like it so far, seems to help with ingrown hairs and its quick and easy.

They don't do as good of a job as manual but they are way faster and more convenient to use, so I think it's worth it. I can be shaven in less than 2 minutes vs 15+ that it normally would take me doing it manually.

I have a Braun Series 7 and I think I actually paid like 400 bucks for it so it's quite a lot of money but it's something I will probably have for a rather long time. I find it's worth it for convenience.

I have a Braun 790cc. It's great, and I can't imagine shaving with anything else, but it is absolutely not worth the money. The cleaning solution is expensive, new razor heads are expensive (I don't have particularly thick facial hair, but I could imagine this breaking the bank for someone with a thick beard)... it's not "worth it." It's a luxury that I'm content to live with because I never learned how to shave with traditional disposables. For the same price, you could subscribe to the highest tier on dollar shave club for over two years.

There's nothing like a good wet shave with a DE razor. However, it's time consuming. Electric is great for everyday. I like Braun or Remington. Good old foil ones. Don't like the rotary shavers.

I just use Mach 3 disposables.

I used to use an electric because I never really knew how to razor shave. Razors are both faster and better ESPECIALLY for thicker beards so just stick with a razor.

IE over time my beard starts to 'creep' out to areas I don't want it to be because the electric gets bogged down if it clips the heavy part of my beard and so it leaves a little hair growing at the boarder that eventually becomes unsightly.

So I use razors everyday for the shaved spots and a quick trim with an electric trimmer on my beard like once a week if it gets a little wild. With a sharp enough razor I don't mind hovering and whisking away a couple hairs here or there sticking up out of my beard.

I can barely grow facial hair so I've only used an electric razor my entire life. Well, I've had to use a cheap disposable razor twice this year due to forgetting to pack said Norelco and both times pictured my throat slashed and me fading out in a pool of blood in a hotel bathroom.

But that's just me. 😉

I don't care for it for my face, but I like an electric razor for quickly shaving/trimming hair below my neck as needed.

I have thick facial hair as well, and never really got much from the electric razors.

I bought a good electric clipper - like this one. and use that to buzz my head and neck and cheeks.

If I want smooth it then takes a couple minutes with a blade. But usually I leave the stubble for the rugged look. =)

I have a Wahl and it seems to do the job well, but I don't get thick fur on my face. I found out that it can run plugged in or on a charge which saved me one day because I forgot to charge it and needed to shave the fur off my face before leaving for Vegas. I was like shit! the battery is drained! plugged it in and it worked! I was so happy! It's all metal too that I can tell.

I like to use my electric shaver for my body hair. I like to use it on my chest to thin out the hair.

Since I started using the electric shaver, I haven't cut myself; that in itself should merit a serious consideration.

Would you believe I've used the same $30 electric razor for 7 years
without ever changing the head and only cleaning it out every couple of weeks?

On second thought - guess after this long it may be about time to try a head replacement

It's a Phillips Norelco Reflex Plus
(hopefully they still make replacement heads)

I do too, but one of these, I do get thick fur.

and look clean shaven.

i also have the 790cc, if you take out the cleaning solution and seal it back up between uses it lasts ~6M? I bought it recently for $140 on amazon since they are kind of being replaced by the ones with cooling gel. Only time will tell how long the foils will last but on my old panasonic arc IV i didn't replace them that frequently.

15 minutes? Damn, are you shaving your pubs in that time as well?

You know what?

I feel for a change after reading through this thread. I will be in a winter climate for 5 weeks this Christmas (visiting sister) and when I am home (subtropical climate) I feel lazy to shave sometimes and rather have a nice uniform stubble until I decide to shave it all off with a regular razor.

I think I will go with a beard and goatee trimmer to have that stubble look and then just use a regular razor to shave it all off now and again.

So far I found this one and it looks good to me so far....

If you had an actual beard you'll need to use an electric shaver even if you finish with a razor. One time I had a full beard and I needed to shave for an interview the next day. My electric wouldn't charge. It wound up taking me me about 1 1/2 hours and 4 Mach 3 blades to shave it completely off. And it left my skin irritated as shit. Clippers or electric shaver + DE razor. I keep a line & Van *** so I'll never be able to ditch my electric totally.

No if you have a full beard then you have to use a scissors first before you even use an electric shaver. Had to election morning when I got rid of my beard to go vote.
