Are Dyson vacuums worth the money?

We kind of need a new vacuum and some people say Dyson's are really good. Are they really worth the money they cost? I done some searching and alot of people say are not very reliable but when they work, they are great. Do they work on hardwood floors as well? If I were to look at one, which model would be better? Where are some places that carry these vacuums so I can look at them first hand?

Anybody on here have one and if so, are they worth it?

Dysons are actually pretty cheap compared to a rainbow or a kirby

and yes they are worth it, believe we got ours from BB or CC before they vanished

We got ours when they switched designs to the ball. It made it a lot cheaper.

The thing is great and cleans our hard floors and carpets way better then or old POS it' replaced. I'd buy one again.

Did you have any problems with break downs? Which model do you have?

I've had a Dyson for about 8 years and I've replaced one brush belt, and that's it. Great vacuum (DC08).

Also, there are some things never to be brought up in AT, unless you want a flamefest troll party:

- Dyson vacuums
- Circumcision
- 0.999999 = 1
- Tipping

I've missed a few, but these are good starters.

I have a dyson animal. sucks like no other... seriously it will suck the carpet off the floor (well almost).

I did have one clip crack on it, but I called Dyson and they sent a replacement part right out; all's well now.

We have a Dyson. Honestly? Meh.... its good. But not that amazing like other people profess it to be. I will pit my $60 shop-vac against my wife's $500+ Dyson any day.

The engineering and design of the Dyson is slick though (attachments, functionality etc etc). The one thing I think the Dyson lacks is that the front end is too light or something. There needs to be a little more weight on the front, where the brush is sweeping the floor.

I used to use the display Dysons to clean up at work a while back and the Animal mosh posted about was fucking awesome. All the other ones were meh and I really hated all the ball models they just didn't pick up very well and were uncomfortable to use. Though we didn't have the Animal Ball version (DC25) it may have been as good as the normal one.

The vacuums are sturdy but they have incredibly stiff beater bars... It's like scrubbing your carpet with a wire brush.

If you have good quality carpet (IE not a rental, not builder's grade) it really won't matter.

Cheap carpet will be torn up with bald spots in 5 years or less.

Take a really close look at the "disgusting nasty dirt" in the canister that first time you vacuum with a Dyson and you'll notice it's 99% carpet fibers that were ripped out of the carpet mat.

FWIW I had a DC07 and let me roommate have it. I ended up with a Eureka Boss bagged vacuum and I prefer it cost aside.

We have an oreck. It is crazy expensive but built to last. And it works well. Want a good vacuum, asking the cleaning people where you work what brand they use at work.

I have a regular non-ball one. It sucks a ton of shit out of my carpets. I'd buy it again.. but I wouldn't buy one of their higher models. Mine ran only $299.

What really grossed me out was how much animal hair it got up the first time we used it. I would clean 2 times a week with our old vac and had just cleaned before buying the dyson.

It was gross how much hair it picked up.

We have a DC07 "Animal" that we purchased in 2003. It has been pretty reliable except for 2 things: the power switch and the hose. We have had to replace both several times but I would also say we use the vacuum like police use cars (9 cats, 4 dogs means lots of frequent vacuuming) so we are defintely "severe duty" users.

IMO no.

There are plenty of vacs that are far cheaper and work well. Most test show they do not work well for their price.

i.e. sell the sizzle, not the steak.

Walmart sells a Hoover knockoff of a Dyson for $99. It's every bit as good. I had a lot of motor problems with my Dyson that required repairs ($69 and $89 each repair).
