Are DVD+R and DVD-R combined drives going to become the norm?

I really want to buy the Plextor +R drive but I keep hearing that -R plays on ALL of the DVD drives old and new.

True, but newer drives will play +R too since +R seems to be winning. Check stores like OD, OMax, Staples and notice Dell only offers +R in their systems.

Despite which I'll probably be buying a dual. The Pioneer A06 retail dualie is around $250, which is more reasonable than Sony's $350 price a couple of months ago.

How and why did DVD burners come down in price so fast? I just remember not too long ago the DVD burners were $400-500 dollars.

Stupid newb question, but what the hell is the difference between the +R and -R? And why are there 2 standards anyway, since CDR's only had one standard?

I think R+ doesn't have a big licensing cost that -R does. One was created by a group of companys and I dunno about the other.

Was that vague enough for you?

actually -RAM is still widely used in home theater recorders and by graphic artist types like my brother. Having the disc in a cartridge makes it more reliable than +RW/-RW.
