i'm sure somone in the past has posted this thought, but if the first dual core laptop are socket 754, what stops those of us who have socket 754 boards from buying one or those and sticking it in our desktop systems?

any thoughts?

I was under the impression that all dual-core mobiles would be for socket S1. The reason for this (as far as I know) is that a single DRAM channel would probably be a huge choke point on two cores (S1 will supposedly have two DDR2 channels).

Not certain. But, I doubt it will be s754 as the single channgel RAM would be a serious bottlle neck.

Even if they were, I doubt your s754 desktop motherboard would be able to run with an X2 reliably.

they already have dual-core DTR notebooks, and its socket 939. i believe voodoopc or acer or somebody else already has the X2 4800+, 7800GTX, 2gb ram, 2 optical drives, 17" lcd, 100gb 7200rpm hd and etc all incorporated into a notebook now.

Its so pointless to me to have a laptop with that kind of power..

How much does it weigh? 13lbs?

Battery life <20min ?

:D

claim that AMD Turion 64 processors will get dual-channel DDR2 memory controller as well as will be available in dual-core flavours and will feature virtualization technology. Less advanced Mobile AMD Athlon 64 will also get dual-channel DDR2 and virtualization support, but will not sport second processing core.

Dual-channel DDR2 memory is likely to require 400-pins on the processor to support memory alone, as DDR2 SO-DIMMs for laptops employ 200-pin form-factor. However, AMD?s next-generation mobile socket ? Socket S1 ? is expected to have only 638-pins. It is highly improbable that such a chip supports dual-channel memory controller, as 238-pins are unlikely to be enough for power and I/O needs of a processor. Nevertheless, it is possible that AMD intros two infrastructures for mobile computers: with single- and dual-channel memory.

the question is, when. the DC Yonah will be a very, very strong competitior, and will be out in January/feburary, while the Turion has yet to prove itself to most of the world and will be out...when?
