At the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Mississippi, Kelly the dolphin has built up quite a reputation. All the dolphins at the institute are trained to hold onto any litter that falls into their pools until they see a trainer, when they can trade the litter for fish. In this way, the dolphins help to keep their pools clean.

I?m finally in the store and some guy follows me around, telling me that bandaids are on sale for 97 cents or something like that. I realized at this point that he was an employee. Even after I told him I wasn?t interested, he gave me a big speech about the bandaids- alright buddy I don?t want your bandaids.

That is a good question. There are definitely MANY homo sapiens that have less intelligence than a dolphin. Whether Wal-Mart employs these people is another debate altogether.

In my limited experience with the retail giant, yes, it is entirely possible.

I'd like to see a WalMart cashier run a cash register CORRECTLY.
now c'mon, you aren't being fair. :p

Are you kidding? Those are just scanners with pretty pictures on a screen. The computer does all the real work, even then the employees still manage to mess it up now and then. If they had to deal with real cash registers, with buttons and numbers and, God forbid, MATH, they'd be screwed.

Walmart hires a lot of people who are mentally retarded. I think that they think this makes them look good, because they're giving them a place to work. Not many companies want to hire mentally retarded people. But I think the real reason Walmart hires them is because they come cheap. Hiring retarded people is fine and all, better to give them a job than have the government support them - but then Walmart goes and puts them on the cash register!

My local Target has a retarded guy working there - they have him bringing the carts in from the parking lot. And he does a darn good job and he's a nice guy too.

I used to work at a 7-Eleven before they got the new cash registers with the touch screen LCDs. In a convenience store you usually try to get people out as fast as possible, because people go to convenience stores BECAUSE they can get in and out quickly. So every employee I knew would not bother punching in the amount of cash received, the'd just hit the cash button and figure the change in their head. It was faster that way. And of course it didn't screw up the cash count at the end of the shift. And these were 7-Eleven employees, not exactly Rhodes Scholars.

I wonder what a Walmart employee would do if your total came to $15.58 and you handed them $21. I think a disappointing percentage of them would hand you back your $1 bill, then give you 4 $1s and a 42 cents.

Not just Walmart... any store with employees who work behind a cash register. In fact, I'd say that if the total came to 16.87 and I gave the cashier 22.12 (to make the change easier), I'd estimate that 85% of the people in this country would struggle with that. Pretty pathetic, isn't it. But, as a society, we don't care if someone can't do 4th grade arithmetic, yet we ridicule them when they can't read, write, spell, or use proper grammar.

Has anyone ever had a good experience in a store like Walmart? I imagine there has to be a few out there with employees of "average intelligence"

Not in any I've ever been in. IME, concrete is smarter than the average Wally-World employee...

Isn't that the truth.

In a store LIKE Walmart? Yes. Target is a store like Walmart. Target is always a pleasant shopping experience. ;)

In a Walmart? No. They have low prices... and that's it.

Yeah, I didn't notice at all. I thought these two dolphins were just playing together, so I snapped a picture. My wife laughed, but I didn't think twice about it. So, we get home at the end of our trip and I'm looking at the pics onscreen with her and she pointed it out. I completely did not see it when I took it. :)

I'd love to see a dolphin cross the border without being caught, stand in line at a DMV to get a driver's license without any other form of ID or proof of residency, steal someone else's SSN, and suck the life out of local government as a leach on society!

err... did that sound bad?
