are Dell 700m's easly upgradeable?

Hey group.

saw a dell 700m in person and really like the set up.
just wondering if i should invest the extra money now and get the 2.0 cpu
or if i should go for the best deal and get the 1.6 now and look into upgrading it down the road when the 2.0 prices come down.

same with the memory,
anyone know if it can easly be added?

appericate any comments.

You don't really gain much by paying more for the 2.0
I would put the $ toward more RAM instead.

700M has the lousy Intel Integrated 855 Video, you can't play intense game on it,
hense no need for a faster CPU.

RAM is easy to install on these laptops. I do not believe, however, the CPU is user-upgradable...is it?

my roomie has 700m and he told me he could upgrade to speedy cpu by sending the 700m to dell to pay the difference.
I think it is best for you to talk with dell support for info before buy or upgrade it.

If you DO want a faster CPU later on, you can contact Dell service parts. they can go through selling you a faster cpu for the difference. I'm pretty sure that sales will just leave you hanging. Looking through a teardown I have of the 700m I'd have to say don't bother trying to take it apart. if you have a Next business day technician service contract they should be able to get a tech out there to rip it apart and upgrade the cpu for you which works well since if they break it, Dell's responsible. 🙂 Ram is super easy to upgrade on it, but you're better off buying it third party.

CPU and memory in laptops are generally a PITA to upgrade, plus you're voiding your warranty. If you don't game the 700m would be fine without upgrades...

putting a stick of ram in a 700m requires a jeweler's screw driver (philips head) and 30 seconds of your time.

As i said above the cpu and dimm 1 are simple to swap and can be done in 5-10 minutes max. The second dimm is hidden away under the keyboard and is an absolute pain to change and requires a tri blade crewdriver.
