are dead pixels still common?

I know when LCDs first came out this was a huge problem. I just got myself 2 19" LCDs and I noticed a dead pixel, only been about 2 weeks and already got one. Is this a fluke, or is this still a common problem? I'm getting it RMAed but its just anoying as I'll be stuck without it for a couple weeks, or whatever time it takes to ship it back, and receive new one.

My new LCD experienced one dead pixel 2 weeks after I got it but haven't had another one after 5 months. There are certain online retailers that have a 9 dead pixels or more befiore they will accept an exchange.

I have owned 7 (and still use 3) LCD monitors and have never had a dead pixel. At work I have set up over 100 LCDs and only one came with a dead pixel. I have also owned and still own dozens of laptops and never came across a dead pixel. So IMO I dont think its common. I could just be lucky, or maybe its because I only get good stuff, I dont know. I think 1 dead pixel should warrant a return, not mutiple ones like the manufacturers state.

In my household we've got/had 5 LCDs and lots of laptops, i had one dead pixel on a laptop screen but that's about it.

I dont think we'll ever see Dead Pixels go away forever. There will always be a chance of it. Doesnt mean you'll have them though.

I haven't had any with the 3 LCDs I've owned.
My friend had one stuck white though.
Still I am always very worried about buying a new LCD because of this.

I must be lucky, I've never had a dead pixel. My vx2025wm is 5 months old. None of the LCDs in my past laptops have had bad pixels - heck even my crappy compaq laptop had none.

I've only ever had a stuck sub-pixel. (three sub-pixels per pixel). My monitor at work has a stuck green sub-pixel on the bottom right and it annoys the crap out of me. If I only had a light background that used green (aka any color that's x, 120->255, x) should be unnoticable.

I would guess that dead pixels are much more likely on cheap, budget LCDs that use lower grade panels than any current, quality LCD panel that only use the higher grade stocks of lcd panels.

In my case i'm lucky since they're willing to RMA it though it is a pia as I need to all unhook it and redo cable management after, and the wait period, but better then being stuck with it as it sticks out like a sore eye unless theres a black background where it is.

That said, is Acer good quality? from my research it is so I'm hoping this is just a fluke and that it wont happen again in long run.

I've got probably 13-14 LCDs between here and the office I work at.

They all have a combined total of three stuck pixels (one red, two green), none dead.
