Are DDR2 slots backwards compatible with DDR?

I think my agp/DDR motherboard died, and I can't find a place near me which sells one that does agp/DDR, only agp/DDR2. Can a DDR2 slot use regular old DDR?

No.

To expand on that slightly, the bottom key/notch is in a different location for DDR and DDR2.

However there are motherboards that feature both DDR and DDR2 slots.

Also the Pin Count For DDR is 184 while DDR2 is 240.

AGP?...DDR? Your motherboard just told you it's time to upgrade.

Haha, I've hit a sort of dead end in my upgrade path. My only options seem to be either to get an outdated mobo replacement, or build a new system ($$$). With a Pentium D, GeForce6800, and 2GB ram, it's still fast enough for most of my purposes. The biggest mistake I made last year was upgrading my mobo/proc but still sticking with agp/ddr, since I didn't want to spend the money getting a new vid card/ram.

If you don't want to upgrade, DDR is still available at many etailers.

Thanks, NXIL, it looks like that mobo is virtually my only choice if I'm to replace only my mobo.

But wow, I didn't realize how overpriced DDR/AGP stuff was these days. Looking at the prices these are selling for used, I could actually sell my old stuff and get better DDR2/PCI-E with no net loss! But it'll take a week or two and I'll be without a computer... =/

Use your case, HD, power supply, DVD drive, along with Pentium D, get it going: then, later you can drop in a nice quad core as prices continue to fall on those.....and, you have a great upgrade path for a while.
