Are Creative Modem Blasters descent ?

The new 3Com 56k Winmodem I bought did NOT work in my computer after I upgraded it, although I seems to work in some of my other machines. I needed a replacement fast (I only had ISA modems laying around, new Intel board has only PCI/AGP). Anyhoo, I found one of these (56k v.90 PCI) shipped Next Day Air for $35. What do you think, I already ordered it, should have been here but I hasn't shown yet 🙁 Anyway, when it does come, will it work ok ? It matches my SB Live! - Thats why I got it, hehe 😀 !!

As far as Winmodems go, Creative seems to be OK. I have one in my work machine and it seems fine for general surfing and such. The gammer folk don't care much for winmodems in general though so if you want to game online you might be disappointed

Creative makes excellent modems. They are great with noisy lines. I know someone who can't connect at V.90 with a USR modem but could with a Creative. I have been using Creative modems for about 2 years and I love them. I use them in all the systems I build. I highly recommend them.

Glad to here they are alright ! For the price it was hard to pass up, and after my new 3Com wouldn't work....

Thanks for your comments/ help !!

I tried a hardware version Blaster modem and was disappointed. Low connect speed. There doesn't seem to be any way to tell how well a modem will work for you until you try it. I did find a cheap win modem at Compusa that totally surprised me. Has out performed all the modems I have tried for connect speed to various ISP's. I haven't found a hardware modem that can match this so far and still want one. I have tried modems that from reports should work very well and don't. Just no way to know until you try it on you phone line.

I used one for two years and had good service. Have put them in many machines for others with the same results. But, I FINALLY have cable access!! 😀

I have been disappointed with the MB hardware based modem as well....I have had to bend over backwards with init strings to get it to be even slightly reliable....whereas the motorola modem (the cheapest possible) does just fine....go figure...
