No, they're not. Personally I think they're more convenient than backpacks.

I use a courier bag when I walk or drive. I use my backpack whenever I'm biking.

They're superior as they can be used in a business environment without hurting chances at promotion. Also good for actual courier work (backpacks are disqualified because someone could unzip it out of your sight while it's being used).

I have a nice leather messenger bag from Wilson's. It goes very well with business attire and I bring it to work every day. I've received many compliments on it. THe next step up would be a leather attache.

backpacks look good if your in grade school...girls laugh at guys with backpacks. Especially 18 year old College students attending CSUSM

I have a similar bag I carry my Laptop, backup tapes, cd's paperwork and such to work with.

There is no asshat on it but does this make me gay?
 

I always thought that they looked cool, then again i respect what gay guys wear since most chicks dig their fashion. To a certain degree of course.
