Are Corolla owners bad drivers?

I was behind a civic driver on my way home from work on a 50 mph rd and this clown was going 40. I have to say corolla/civic drivers usually blow.

Actually my experience has been that Candian drivers are pretty scary. Maybe it's because they're down here in NY and don't know their way around but I've seen cars with Canadian plates doing some crazy stuff.

For instance, I remember this one time where there was a merge coming up in the right lane and this car with Ontario plates was in the right lane with a truck right next to him going pretty slowly, lets say 25-30, and I was behind the truck. This numbskull could have sped up and passed the truck quite easily before the merge ended but instead he just maintained speed until he suddenly realized "Uh oh! The lane is closing up and there's a white line here that my right tires have crossed!". I saw it coming a mile away so I dropped back off the truck about 6 car lengths giving the nitwit plenty of room to correct his mistake and get over behind the truck. Instead of doing that he hits his brakes hard, slows down to a crawl and starts coming over. Forcing me to brake pretty hard since I wasn't expecting that maneuver.

I now know to watch out for some crazyness whenever I see a Canadian plate. It's not like they drive really dangerous or anything, zipping in and out of traffic. It's more that they don't react the way you'd expect and suddenly they're coming right for you!
Up here we say that Americans don't know how to drive in the snow. We tend to avoid the US plates in bad weather.

That said, I actually find Americans to be better summer drivers than Canadians. Toronto is a pretty insane place to drive.

I've heard that New Jersey drivers are the absolute worst.

I haven't noticed problems with Corolla drivers here in NE Ohio because I'm too busy looking out for "I drive like I have nothing to lose" Cavalier drivers. Fear factor is quite high at gas stations, and is at full scale within 1 mile of any Walmart.

<-- 5 - 10 mph over the limit Passat driver

I guess you must have not encountered many drivers from Quebec then...there will be no blinkers.

All I know is when I hit one of the local twisty mountain roads, if there is someone to buzzkill everyone by going below the speed limit and braking for every ever so slight corner, 80% of the time it's a Toyota driving lemming.

What about the dude driving his mid-90s Chevy pickup full of trash to the hardware store? Cidiot volve driver that panic brakes for squirrels? Rusted Ford Escort driven by white trash in a meth haze? Or the classic drifting crown victoria that drives one speed everywhere they go, 35 mpg, no matter what the speed limit is?

yes. around here all the indians drive tan or offwhite corollas. all the bumpers are dinged up and they pilot their vehicles like they believe they only have seconds to live. i think a lot of them grew up NOT driving, only started driving later in life and just arent comfortable. scary, really...

I think it's an issue of Corolla being the most bought car by people who are new to driving. I call myself idiot magnet and I have other people ride with me agree with me.

No doubt, most Corolla and Camry drivers usually drive way too slow, like Minivan drivers (or all Vans for that matter)....totally suck. As for Volvos, I have two turbo wagons (945T, 855T), both modified and quite fast. I'm usually passing everyone and what's nice about Volvo's is that police usually don't pull you over even if they see you speeding because they probably think "nah, couldn't be".

I can't comment on this due to my signature...but the only person I know really well that drove a Corolla drove around with a bowling ball bouncing around in the trunk. It was random fun, and really loud. Glad that wasn't my car.

A friend of mine and I have both noticed that here in Toronto, ON, people who drive Corollas tend to be very nervous drivers, driving below the speed limit, and often cutting you off and stuff.

Do you guys notice this as well?

I'm sorry man. Maybe you've seen me. My driving school instructor's car is a Corolla, and he not only made me nervous, but we were 'training' for the stupid G1 test so we had to stick to the limit😉. And compared to a Civic, the Corolla handles like a piece of shit for me. It's cheap and moderately sized, so maybe the crappy drivers flock to them; but then so is the Yaris, Mini, Smart and a bunch of other cars...

The only reason that it seems that Corollas/Civics are often badly driven is that there are SO MANY OF THEM on the road. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that Triumph Spitfire drivers are 100% the worst drivers on the road. You will never notice, because there are no Triumph Spitfires on the road (Both a question of scarcity, and electrical problems). Contrast this to Corollas, of which there are millions and they never break down. As a result, you see a lot of them, and even if only 3% of their drivers are bad, they stand out as the largest group of bad drivers.
