I remember certain people saying that Wall-E had a liberal message. This movie seems equally ripe for conservative anger.

The following can be figured out from the trailers. The movie is about an Earth mining corporation trying to displace noble natives with blockhead space marines so that they can get the valuable minerals that the natives live on. James Cameron has admitted there's an environmental angle. The movie also contains lines about "shock and awe" and terrorism. There's a lot about Marine culture (mostly negative) in the movie.

I'm surprised I haven't heard any conservatives complain yet since it seems to contain a clear criticism of the neocon agenda and mentality. (Of course, there aren't only similarities, the alien women don't wear burkas and don't commit terrorist acts, but then again that wasn't the case with Iraq either!)

Conservatives... no. Ultra right wingers... probably. Of course I am sure the ultra left can find a fault in it too.

I don't know if there's much for the ultra left to take issue with since the natives are basically pre-agrarian anarcho-communists. :p But I did hear a lot of people complain the story was trite or stereotypical... I'd agree but the story is really just a vehicle for the characters and the special effects IMO. I didn't really expect to have Earth-shattering new ideas introduced by this blockbuster.

The only thing that made me angry when I went was the dumbass college douchebag sitting behind me, hyper analyzing the movie, looking for some political message in it.

You mean the whole: Rich white people want some minerals. These minerals are located where a disenfranchised and primitive people live. e.g. colonization is bad or allegory of modern neocon agenda. Maybe. But I liked it and my 3 boys loved it.

Rank and file conservatives are upset by anything they're told to get upset about, by the sources they trust- Rush, Hannity, Palin, etc and so forth. They're addicted to outrage and the smug sense of moral superiority that goes along with it, even if they're getting people killed.

You and Infohawk were at the same theater?

You know I'm surprised the Liberals aren't upset because I had a sandwich. It had roast beef in it, and beef adds to warming, and warming is evil so I'm a conservative. Only Conservatives eat roast beef sandwiches. On the other hand it had turkey as well. Turkey is more environmentally friendly. Oh no! A moral dilemma! On one hand beef is evil, but turkey is good. How can we resolve the conflict???

I'd better not mention it had ham too :p

LOL. Looks like Anandtech forgot to move that thread to P&N.

Wow the OP is comical. "Eminent domain" is referenced in another post.

Assuming for a second the OP is in fact not a troll, he made wild unfounded assumptions of the movie that if it were true would make his anger more justified.

Assumptions made:
1- The dudes with guns were military. [It was stated that the solders where mercenaries hired to fight for a corporation]
2- The military was the USA military. [While many terms used in the movie are used in the USA military, it does not make it the USA military]
3- That the USA military was on the verge of fighting a war and needed this mineral. [There was a line "We are on the verge of war!", which I took as referring to the natives as there is zero mention of outside politics or what is happening off of Pandora]
4- The mineral would solve a energy crisis. [He pulled this one out of his ass.]

His objection was to the
mutiny of some of the mercenaries and actions taken against their former fellow mercenaries
with the assumption it was the USA military and they were justified in
killing and displacing the natives
(ring a bell anyone?). Take away the arguments above and the mercenaries/corporation are well on their way to
committing genocide against the natives (imho this is where it was headed) to turn a quick buck (only urgency clearly stated was a need to turn a quarterly profit). There also appeared to be no over site on their actions which seems odd, but that is just another plot hole.

So anyone could make one of the above false assumptions and be outraged, they would also be very stupid.

Heh. You'll jump up with your panties in a wad, soon enough, over something, right after the usual sources stroke your erroneous zones, I'm sure...

I read right-wing blogs to research what the opposition is always thinking, and no surprise, they have predictable "oh noes the sky is falling/hollywood liberals at it again" kind of articles. It's pretty damn funny actually.

Unlike silly liberals, conservatives don't concern themselves with what amounts to a high budget cartoon. Everyone knows this.

It reminds me of conservatives whining about the parallels made in Revenge of The Sith with Nixon and Bush...

Believe it or not, the majority of Conservatives can enjoy a movie even if it's message is opposing to their own.
