Are CMOS batteries for laptops universal?

Are they? It would appear that CMOS batteries for laptops are universal because I've got two computers with apparantly dead CMOS batteries that need to be replaced and I'm pretty sure they're the same thing, cept one a-hole wants to charge me $34 while another wants to charge me $9.

Almost nothing on a laptop is universal by design - maybe by coincidence. 🙂 The batteries all have numbers on them, and thought they may look alike, make sure the numbers are alike.

Well they seem to have the same voltage and are both NIMH.

Could be a nice coincidence - but are the ma/h the same? (that bears on battery life.)
