are Chieftek cases any good?

I really dig the aesthetics of some Chieftek cases. Like the Chieftec Smart CM-09B, or the Chieftec Libra LT-01B (I know that I have to take the motherboard size into account).

But they're quite cheap and this rises a bit of suspicion.

Are they any good? Did you had any problems with them? Are they difficult to work with? How do they fare with "good" boxes? (I know close to nothing about boxes so are Lian Li considered good boxes?)

They used to be some of the best about ten or so years ago. (Chieftec AX series? Dragon series? I can't remember all the names. Very popular. The same design was manufactured by... I can't remember now, and sold by a bunch of companies. I think Alienware started out using those before Dell bought them.)

I haven't seen them get a lot of press lately - premium brands like Lian-Li and Fractal Design seem to have gotten more mind-share.

I don't see anything about either of those two cases that is concerning. If the price is right and you like the looks of 'em, go for it.

Internally, inexpensive cases tend to have more sharp edges and fewer toolless brackets and things, so they're a little harder to build a rig in. This is typically true even of inexpensive models from "premium" manufacturers. But I see plenty of fan grills and drive bays, so I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you spend a LOT of time swapping components and are either uncoordinated or frequently intoxicated.

are you looking for something in particular? mini-atx? small form factor?
most of the market today is on low-end corsair and fractal cases, they are just so good.

Still rocking a Chieftec Dragon full tower that I scored back in the day for all of $19 ... SHIPPED !!! What a freakin' tank.

Heh, what a blast from the past. They were like Newegg specials 10+ years ago. Whats sad is I dont think I ever actually had one...just a knockoff. lol

EDIT: Or was Chieftec the Antec knockoff, or vice versa...

Lian Li are excellent, but rather high-end cases. expect double the list price of the same size, from competitors.

those chiefteck you linked are both mATX, and .. well, they sure look somber. nothing fancy.
mind you, unless you have special airflow + dissipation needs, a case is just something to hold your parts together. a $15 case could do.
if i were you, i'd look at the corsair 100R.
