Are cdr's recyclable?

Can you recycle cdr's? I've been cleaning up a little and getting rid of burned cds that I don't need anymore. Should I just toss them in the trash, or are these recyclable with other plastics (bottles, etc)?

I would just toss them in the trash, but there's enough I want to throw away to make me feel guilty if its recyclable.

i was thinking about taping all of mine to the wall and making a collage... but i ended up just throwing them in the trash.

You could decorate them and give them away as stocking stuffer coasters. 🙂

My guess is it is probably not economical to recycle them and thus no recycling place will take them. After all they don't really care about the planet as much as they do $$$.

I'm sure they are, but recycling is not economically feasable unless it's on a very large scale. Even then, it doesn't help companies save money when they're wasting their so-called profits from recycling into the ground because it costs so much to transport dozens of tons to a recycling center. Recycled materials are not expensive. Companies get anywhere from $9/ton to $40/ton. Who in the fvcking hell is going to pay for transportation for TONS of recyclables and only make $40 on it? Recycling is a waste.

AOL should be asking this question! 😀

Considering that the US government ended up subsidizing those CDs, that question shall never be posed and ultimately...in time...with much paperwork...never answered..😀

The base is polycarbonate, which is recyclable. I found one company, GreenDisk.com, that sell CDRW's made from recycled materials, which suggests CDR's and CDRW's should be recyclable.

The question is whether the coatings contain toxic chemicals that can't be processed. You'll have to check with your local trash collection agency to see if they accept them.
