Are Canon printers generally reliable?

I have very little cash and I see a Canon Pixma ip1500 printer (the cartidges are cheap), and it;s under $50. All I need is a good little printer that will last two years. Do you think this printer will?

Historically the Canons are practically unbreakable. The paper feed mechanism is solid even in the cheapest models (like the iP1500), the head is long lasting - and still replaceable for very little money should it ever fail.

That is a good bang for the buck printer. I don't think you will be disapointed. I have owned a lot of Canon's, no complaints! 😉

I'd say for the money the 1500 is a lot better than the previous cannon models in the same price range.. ie the 250 and 350. I've sold all three, and by far the one with the fewest complaints has been the 1500. If you had about double the money I'd jump to the 3000, i've been quite impressed with it (as well as the 4000, and 5000) models so far.

I`ve had bad luck with Epson printers, the heads always clog up after awhile,as to Canon printers, well all I can say is my current Canon printer is a gem, never given me any problems,no jams and never had to clean the heads which is amazing considering I`ve gone through quite a few ink carts on my Canon printer.

I don`t think you can go wrong with Canon printers, cheapest ink around, replaceable heads and they don`t mind being turned off for weeks at a time(unlike my old Epson printer).

🙂

I've got an iP3000 and I like it just fine. The best ink I've found for the printers like the 1500 that use the BCI-24 tanks is the USA Five-Star sold by USAinkjet on eBay. Last I knew you get 6 of each (black/color) for $23.90 shipped. I had an i450 prior to the iP3000 - if staples hadn't had that $60. deal on the iP3000, I'd still be happily using it...
.bh.

I have an IP5000, and its been rock solid. I've printed tons of photos, and a couple of reams of paper. With ink costs on the Canon being so low, it beats the hell out of the old HP Deskjet I used to have.

Many Canons get thrown out because people think they're broken when they actually just need a bit of love and care ...

Example: This weekend, someone brought me two "broken" high-end six-ink Canons to be taken to the recycler - one S800 and one BJC8200.
The S800 needed a head cleaning and the right inks fitted (there was a light-magenta cartridge in the Magenta slot), works fine since.
The BJC8200 indeed didn't work, clearly complaining about a "print head error". New print head bought off eBay for less than $50.

Did I mention the guy also gave me the remaining ink cartridges he didn't use up - 22 of them.

So I got two $250 printers and well over $150 worth of ink for $50 😀

Yes, people are stupid. Being a fair serviceman, I rang him and told him that the S800 was perfectly OK and asked whether he'd want it back. He didn't. Ah well.

Agreed...

Canons are nice, but Epsons are also nice and they print just as good of quality, but they are much cheaper on ink. Canon printers will suck ink like a crack addict. Using both over the years I favor Epson because of this very reason.

Strange how EVERY SINGLE comparison test concludes the exact opposite ... just look at the most recent ones, e.g. on tomshardware.

yup.. that is the exact opposite.. ive owned an epson and canon... epson were pretty, but uses sooo much ink (30$/cartridge)... they were slower and problematic. not only are canons now pretty, they use 10$ cartridges, lasts a long time, and are crazy fast

Too bad...
