Are BR drives still slow as molasses? PS3.

So, i got a PS3 around 3 years ago and use it pretty much for BR playing. initially I only had a few discs and really havent used it all that much. Lately tho I have been getting more into BR and my PS3 seems to load them slow. I recall asking this question a couple of years ago but maybe things have changed a bit since then. Are BR players still slow on loading movies and menus? I want to maybe get rid of the PS3 and just get a sleek standalone player but if they are still slow as shit I may as well keep it.

disable BD Live (set it to prompt every time, then just select no when the prompt occurs). If you can't do that , disable network settings (some bluray players probably don't have a setting to disable BD live).
It's never taken me more than a few seconds to load any of my Blurays.

BD - Internet Connection

Select whether or not your PS3™ system connects to the Internet during BD playback. This setting applies only to BD that support Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE).
Confirm Set your system to prompt for confirmation before connecting to the Internet.
Allow Set to allow your system to connect to the Internet without confirmation.

I'm pretty sure the ps3 used to actually have an option for disabling BD Live, but they removed it in an update 🙁

They are all slow but some of the dedicated players will be much quieter than the PS3, which is a pretty noisy sucker while playing BDs.

Depends on revision. The original was loud. Ever seen the fan in those? It's 1/3 of the entire system. The slim is quietest. The new super slim is a lil louder because of the way it loads disks. No fan noise though. Inside my media platform it's silent. I replaced 3 originals over fan noise.

I have the Slim and its way louder--the mechanical disc read noise--than either of my Oppo BD players.

When they were released, compared to standalone players, they were pretty fast.

Nowadays, not so much.

I recently picked up a Panasonic BDT-210 and it's far faster than the PS3.
