Are Blaupankt car stereos any good?

I want to replace my Jensen (yuck..😀isgust😉 stereo and want something better like those ~100 Sony Xplod and Pionner ones at like Circuit City and Best Buy. I was browsing some forums and someone was selling this for $60? I've never heard of that brand, but it seems like a good brand...Is it comparable to those ~$100 Sony/Pioneer units? link

probably doesn't make a difference if you have an amp. cd/radio tech is kinda mature. blaupankt has always seemed low end to me.

I dont have an amp...🙁

I dont want very high quality, just good... My brother installed a $100 Sony Xplod yesterday with stock speakers and it blows away my Jensen with upgraded speakers (not that expensive, but still, heh)

BTW, does anyone any other forums where people sell used car audio such as VWVortex? 🙂

Sony's car audio products suck. Get the Pioneer.

I'm an Infinity fan. Something about the Blaupankt name just rubs me wrong - It just sounds cheap 😕

Blaupankt head units have always been a little on the ugly/plain/basic side. I don't know anything about the quality they put out but they just don't look sexy (as much as a head unit can look sexy). They are the Volvo station wagons of the car audio world.

Well said.

sounds like you have sh*tty aftermarket speakers, or your amp is way underpowered. stock shouldn't beat aftermarket.

and remember, component front speakers are best.

I have a blau and I doubt I'd get another one. My first blau was good, but this one is kind of sucky. It skips sometimes and the display has a minor bug. I wish I had kept my old one, but I wrecked the car it was in and the car was basically a death trap.

Sony also sucks though, don't bother. Pioneer is pretty good for the price.

Blaupunkt is a premium German brand. Its an old and well established manufacturer of high quality electronics..

Far better than Sony for car audio any day...

I have one of their lower-end models (Key West). It has stood up to tremendous amount of abuse, and plays about any disc..CD-R, scratched etc. I added two pairs of lower end 🙂D) Blaupunkt speakers and it sounds very clean....

I would normally recommend Blaupunkt without hesitation, but I do not know much about that particular model you are looking at..

I think the problem is my Jensen Headunit...it sucks...:X

European 'minimalist' design as opposed to the flashy Japanese units (not all models though..).

I have used Pioneer, Sony and Kenwood, and IMHO Blaupunkts are the easiest to use, requiring the least amount of attention to fiddle with the controls while driving.🙂

i remember the first time i heard the brand blaupunkt was in an episode of married with children when Jefferson D'arcy buys a stolen car stereo. I think he asked if it was a blaupunkt.

if its good enough for Jefferson D'arcy perhaps its good enough for you.

Blaupunkt is the brand of radio used in Porsches. It's a good middle-high end brand for people who want the radio's R&D to have gone into sound quality and not stupid blinking lights. Granted, it's no Nakamichi, but it's a good brand.

Agreed. Sony (in general) is an example of "Jack of all trades, master of none." They produce tons of crap that is good enough for the general public who is content purchasing all of their electronics at Best Buy without doing any research, comparisons, price shopping, etc....

They have become that way, yes. They were not always so. Betamax was (and still is) superior to VHS, but playing-time issues lost it the battle for public acceptance. I've also got an old (1970's) Sony receiver/turntable that has great sound and has been a trooper.

I think mine looks good, I like a more OEM look. Yeah it doesn't have the animated faceplate with swimming dolphins, but if it looks too flashy, it'll get jacked. My previous blau went 2 years w/o being stolen and my current one is going on 2 years. Both of mine had detachable faces but I got more and more lazy and stopped taking it off. I need to stop being a lazy ass.

My friend jokes that his bright silver JVC MP3 player is basically a giant "steal me" sign in his car.
