Lima Beans
Pigeon Beans
Soy Beans
Split Peas
Peanuts
Peanut Butter

ah..good.. then i found a good safe food 🙂

i think i'll go get some lunch 🙂

Yeah, I'd thought that both Atkins and south beach allowed a certain amount of net carbohydrates each day, which basically comes out to carbs minus a certain formulaic number (or something) based on the amount of fiber you eat. Seeing as how beans are very high in fiber and protein, I'd imagine they're atkins-acceptable.

Then again, I just stick to moderation and low amounts of fat, myself. Seems to be working quite fine.

I really don't understand the Atkins diet craze. You are eating lousy--Meet and cheeses is all fat and cholesterol. I don't understand why people can't just eat healthy, with plenty of fruits and vegetables in reasonable PORTIONS! You'd far more likely to maintain the weight loss too.

You're right, I don't know much about this South Beach diet. In fact, I think the idea of "dieting" is silly for most people because it implies a temporary change in the way you eat. Some may make long term changes, but without proper diet, exercise, sleep etc, a lot of those who lose weight will gain it back on these "diets". But to each his own.
Seriously... Why post such strong sentiments about something when you don't even have the basic understanding of it?

Do yourself (and everyone reading this thread) and do just a little research, and then produce an educated opinion.

Beans (with the exception of coffee from coffee beans) are almost purely starch and therefore not good.

Go to a burger place and eat a few hamburger patties, or a chicken pieces from Chik fil-a.

Fiber. Enough said.

Sorry for the rant 🙂

If you don't understand it then why post such and uneducated post?

depending on which phase you're in for the south beach.
In phase one (akin to induction for atkins) you try to eat as little carbs as you can. It's to help you get used to not having any carbs at all. The book recommends you do this for a min. of 2 weeks. Longer if you can withstand it. You drop the most weight here.

Phase two you introduce a limited amount of good carbs. You lose weight here to.

Phase three there's no limit on the amount of carbs you can have but the book does have diet and lifestyle guidelines. Still suggests you limit the bad carbs however.

Gain weight? go back to phase two or even phase one.

i'm really damn hungry.. and there's a food court here.. and i figure if beans are moderately atkins/south beach acceptable, then i might get a decent lunch.

they serve a really good meat + rice + beans bowl. i figure if i skip the rice, load up on the meat and cheese, then it wouldnt be too bad. comments? i'm having trouble finding food with this damn diet. all i've had so far is a mozzarella stick and a mini-gouda.

?

You should also know that mozzerella sticks are breaded, and therefore not acceptable on the atkins diet. I'm pretty sure its a no-no for south beach, too.

I assumed he was talking about the string cheese mozzerella sticks.

wth are string cheese mozzerella sticks? need pics so i can look for em at Kroger.

refried beans you say? beans are a safe food on SB, if eaten sparingly..but what you are getting is probably loaded with lard and saturated fats. just don't make it an everyday thing

Very few beans are allowed on Atkins. Green beans are about all you can get away with, at least in the earlier phases. They may be high in fiber and protein, but there is still a fair amount of starch. Rice is all starch and has to be avoided completely on Atkins.

South Beach diet is not a low carb diet. In the first phase, it sort of resembles the Atkins diet in a way, but in all truth, it is actually quite different. I believe in order to diet correctly to any diet, you have to be educated about the foods you can eat and etc. in your particular phase.
