I need to dig a 7 foot deep trench about 12 feet long and 3 feet wide next to my house.

I was thinking about renting one but have no experience.

Should I hire a pro?

One has to ask why. You'd also need to rent a dump truck to put all that dirt. I'm sure it's easy to figure out but you need to consult with the city to make sure there are no utility lines/pipes in the ground in that area

If you have never at least driven a forklift, do not rent a backhoe. they will likely not even rent to you. You have to think about a bunch of stuff and know where levers are without looking for them.

I recomend you not do this. but if you do, please post pics of the new window you will be putting in your home.

what are you doing? building a bomb shelter?

IMO, you are going to destroy your house.

Pay a BONDED (confirmed) contractor to do the digging for you.

LOL.

I need to dig along side a part of the house so I can do some foundation work (which I can do myself).

I think I will just hire someone to do the digging. (I already verified the area is free from utilities and stuff.)

Why not hire 2 mexicans @$10 an hour for four hours? Cheaper and less responsiblity. Insurance is not provided on heavy equipment. you break it you pay.
