Are ASUS DVD DRIVES exceptional dvd-rom drives?

Their 8x ones are around $55 retail but I could get doublt the speed of that with other drives for the same price. Would it be worth getting the Asus though? Also, are SLOT load pioneers bad because more dirt can get in?

I just bought the Toshiba through Newegg for $70 shipped. It has great ratings and was faster than the pioneer.

I have a slot Pioneer 16x. works great, reads every disc i put in fine, and the transfer rates are VERY fast. even better... people admire the slot because it looks cool
