Does anything work as good as Verizon?

Seems like Verizon costs the most.. are there any alternatives to cell phone providers that are worth getting?

You're not in completely BellAtlantic monopoly territory down near Rutgers are you? I know some friends that go down there frequently with Sprint phones. Sprint and AT&T are both piggybacking on Verizon's digital network now and their reception should be getting better.

AT&T has much better phones but Verizon will give you the best service in the area. Sprint has the cool stuff like camera phones but their plan rates are kinda suck if you're taking major advantage of free celluar web access. I know a lot of people in denial with TMobile, Cingular, and Nextel... their calls sound like farking grap and they get dropped calls a lot. They think that's normal... ha. They wonder why there is a giant dead zone along one of the main roads through my area.

It depends what you are looking for from your plan and how much you want to spend. Verizon has great service, but it may not be the best match if you are getting a nice plan or if you want unlimited internet.

I just switched from AT&T to Sprint and so far I am loving it. Even traveling, I have fewer dropped calls and the reception is better. Not to mention price!

$100 600 minutes AT&T
$110 2000 Minutes Sprint

verizon fanboy right here :p

it seems that at&t costs the most, at least if you want nationwide roaming... but then again i don't roam anywhere except when i'm on vacation so i wonder if AC is really that good of a plan for me... heh.

Well, I am looking to just spend around $30 a month. All I need is 300 anytime and a good roaming area.

Seems to me like Verizon is the only one with decent coverage.

It all depends on where you live.... in Chicago where I lived till a month ago Cingular wasnt all that good... and sprint down right SUCKED, my sister had it and she dropped multiple calls a day and had HORRIBLE reception. I use T-Mobile and like it very much.

Weird...I have sprint, and when I went to Chicago I got better reception there than I do at school in Athens, Ga. Then again, it was a year and a half ago, so maybe it's changed since then.

I mainly keep sprint because of all the freebies they give you (nationwide long distance, nationwide network, etc.). But yeah, text messaging is sort of non-existant. Internet is nice, but requires additional $$/month if it's not included in your plan (yeah, duh). I abuse the hell out of my PCS to PCS, though. $5/month for unlimited sprint to sprint calling...I think I racked up like 3000 minutes this past billing cycle.

What area do you live? That makes all of the difference in the world.

I have had Ameritech, Sprint, AT&T, Tmobile, and Nextel. Out of all of those, Tmobile was by far the best service I had. You can get some cool phones from them from Amazon.com for pretty cheap and they have a $30 a month plan.

I agree with this. I don't know about other carriers but it makes a big difference w/ Sprint.

I live in the Bay Area and had AT&T for two years with wonderful service.

Then I made a terrible mistake and switched to tmobile because of their cool phones and cheap rate plans. WIth tmobile i was always getting dropped calls and sometimes i couldn't even make calls. It was the worst.

I just signed back up with at&t again and have great service again. . Tmobile and cingular are terrible in the bay area. Don't make the same mistake that i did.

I think a lot depends on the area you are in and how good your phone is.

I am very happy with SprintPCS. Used it this week end 3 miles out to sea off Miami and it worked perfectly where other peoples cells did not.

I agree their CS sucks though.

I travel a lot and have never in the US found a place Sprint didnt work.

I do have their last top of the line phone though, the Sanyo SCP-5150. They have a newer model now.

Of course I only use it to talk so YMMV.:p
