Are anniversaries an "annual" thing?

People seem to loosely throw around the word anniversary for weekly, or monthly events..but the word anniversary comes from the word annual, so technically it is incorrect.

How do you feel about this?

ive only heard women talk of anniversaries in months, days, anything other than a year. i think its because they just want presents and attention; another reason for the guy to kiss their a$$.
