Would like to download one to try out their service...I see that they area 256Kbps, which is acceptable....would prefer at least 320Kbps.

But are their MP3's DRM free? Can I play it on and copy it to whatever the hell I want?

The ones that I've downloaded have been DRM free. I assume that they all are.

Well who knows these days. I figured they could add some soft of special crap to them.

Yes, they are all completely DRM-less.

They are a mix of 256 kbps CBR and VBR. I have bought a few tracks and have no complaints about quality. Amazon now has 3 of the 4 big studios (no Sony yet), which gives them the biggest selection of non-DRM mainstream stuff.

*cough*.

320 CBR is the highest you can encode an MP3. Any higher and it's technically not a true MP3 anymore...

Play Anywhere, DRM Free.

Its their tagline, so they damn well better be DRM free. Incidentally, I just bought 3 albums from Amazon to test out the service. Seems pretty solid so far, though I haven't yet transferred them to my iPod.

Edit - Moved them to my older iPod Nano last night, no problems transferring or playing them. There were some minor difficulties getting the Amazon MP3s set up in my playlists in iTunes, but thats due to Apple not writing iTunes properly for Vista.

Wish they'd offer Vorbis instead of MP3 though, but thats just my opinion.

It's Morse. Just dorks showing "leetness" in new and dorkier ways. There's a reason there aren't many women on AT.

From a few articles (and threads on doom9) that I've read, all CBR mp3 profiles are outdated and should no longer be used. Almost everyone says that using the '-v 0' setting in LAME - the highest VBR rate that normally results in a ~250kbps bitrate - is the only way to go to get the most out of the mp3 format. The same (or better?) quality with reduced file-size to boot.

I'll second this advice, it's really the best way to go.

<British narrator>
"And here we see the Lesser Male Nerd attempting to demonstrate his leetness to any female in visual range. He attempts to do so through usage of a third party website, and copy and pasting skills. Sadly for him, most available females realize the simplicity of this action, and also realize that the posting of Morse Code only creates more work for them, since they must either learn Morse Code themselves, or else seek out an appropriate translation website. In nearly all such cases, the male's displays do not result in copulation."

The reason for that is that most homes don't have computers in the kitchen and laundry room.

true, but now that laptops are becoming available in pink, purple, and various pastels, that's bound to change :)

Good question. By that I mean, ATOT should hook into google and show the results of google searches for the proposed topic of a thread before allowing someone to post, and this is as good a thread as any to prove the need.
