Are alluminum cases LOUD?

Lian and others make alluminum cases, and I'm wondering if they are "louder".

In a regular case, you have metal + plastic on the front and thick steel "walls" which shield you from the noise of the fans and HD's. But in an alluminum case, there is only alluminum on the front, and walls are very thin too. Does it mean things inside the case can be heard better?

I actually think it makes less noise than my old steel one. The new one has more fans, too. But I haven't done a real comparison with the exact same fans or anything.

Altho I cant do a direct comparison, becasue i sold my old InWin case right after switching to a Lian Li PC60 about 2 months ago. I recently installed EnerMax whisper 365 fc model power supply, and not only did i have to turn off the air conditioner and fans in the room to hear it, I had to put my hand on the exhaust fan to make sure it was blowing.

And this case has dual 80 mm intake fans, an 80 mm exhuast, and i have a slot exhuast fan. In addition to a dual fan power supply, a Thermalright SK6 with a Sunon 60 mm, and the fan on my GeForce Ultra. Thats 8 fans total. and I can barely hear them.

So... Yes... my Lian Li is MUCH quieter than my old case.

To add to the other guys, no, aluminum cases aren't loud at all. I have a Lian-Li PC60 and it rocks. It is whisper quiet, quieter than my lil' ol FK-602 metal and plastic one.

I have 2 Lian Li's. In terms of noise etc they are quieter than my Q500 or HQ-O8 were

Although i have seen some comments that these cases can vibrate quite a bit

Do you guys prefer cases with slide-out motherboard drawers? The Lian PC-70 I am considering does NOT have one, so I don't know if it's worth it then.. It looks kinda cheap too (inside), just a few sheets of alluminum folded at 90" 🙂

Depending on how much you access your case, a motherboard tray may not be that important to you.

On my PC12 the motherboard tray is fantastic. Everything slides out and there is a special cable so that i can fully slide out the tray without having to unplug/replug all the cables idividually

It's a shame you need more bays than the PC60 can offer (by one bay), it's a great case

Here's the PM I sent to VBBoy. Hopefully everyone can benefit 🙂

Love the PC-70

1) The PS plate is solid... so you can cut a hole if you want to use an Enermax PS (I'm using an Enermax too). However, I being too lazy to do this, I mounted the PS upside down so that the fan is pointing up.
2) I think its worth the money. IT IS SUCH A NICE CASE!
3) Nope you can't turn the bottom HD cage, but you don't need to 🙂
