Are all USB cables the same?

I'm not talking about the type of cable but transfer rate. Some USB cables I see are labelled as "usb 2.0 compliant" while some aren't. It doesn't even say 2.0 on it. Some are "gold-plated" while some have just metal color connectors. I'm asking because I just bought a few Belkin USB cables from a computer swapmeet for 1-2 bucks each and I wonder if there's any difference. Stores are sellting them for around $15-25 each, way overpriced compared to non-branded ones.

Gold is less conductive than copper so that will not make a difference(not that it would have anyway)

I am not sure about the cable being USB 2.0 complient but I doubt it matters

Gold is far more conductive then copper.

I think it has to do with the shielding. Over longer distances USB 2.0 certified will probably get you faster transfers but USB 1.0 cables will still work.

Gold ? Electrical Conductivity: 45.2 106/m Ohm

Copper ? Electrical Conductivity: 59.6 106/(m O)

Might wanna look up facts before you say I am wrong
