i am looking to buy a usb extension cable, becuz i have reaching around the back of my rig to plug in my flash drive. now my question is... are all usb cables the same? or do they make different cables for 12mbps and 480mbps?

There are ones rated for USB 2.0. I don't know how much different those are...probably not much would be my guess 😉

the problem is, both 12mbps and 480mbps are considered usb.20 (full speed vs hi-speed). are all usb2.0 cables created equal???

Pre-USB 2.0 cables weren't necessarily shielded, USB 2.x cables should all be shielded.

.bh.

Here, have a  ! My Berserker arrives today...

True.

All USB cables should do 2.0 speeds, but many were not manufactured properly, & they will not.

cool. i was looking at some usb extension cables on ebay... so i will know to avoid ones that don't specifically say they do 480mbps.

The better cables are, for all practical purposes, the same. There are now, however, three different kinds of connectors. There are the old standard A and B connectors, - now there is also a Mini (M) connector which looks like a 4-pin Firewire plug.

Extensions are usually "A" male on 1 end and "A" female on the other. There are also stacked femail ends that will accept 2 "A" males.
