Are all USB 2.0 ports the same?

Just built a new system - the case is an Antec P180, the motherboard is a P5N-E SLI. I've hooked the USB attachment that came with the case to the USB connection on the motherboard.

My keyboard, mouse, and gamepads can all connect just fine to the USB connections on the front. However, whenever I try to hook up my iPod shuffle, nothing happens. I try my iPod with the USB connections in the back of the case (directly attached to the motherboard) and everything is fine.

Is something wrong with the USB port? The motherboard? Anybody got any ideas?

You could double-check the cables from your case -> mobo.

I nearly fried my ipod on my Antec Aria case (it was getting VERY hot). Because the case has 5-pin connectors (instead of 9-pin) it's easier to misconnect them.

My problem (i believe) is that I put 2 x 5-pin connectors (for the 2 front USB ports) on a single 9-pin header. Now I have them split up so each of them uses 50% of 2 different headers on the mobo. (using 5 pins and exposing 4)

If he has SP2 it should be fine. Honestly it's probably your iPod. I've gone through numerous connectivity and USB plug in related troubles with my 3rd gen iPod and over the course of 2 years sent it back 6 times and got 3 new/differnt iPods from the apple from those 6 times heh..

I think Apple actually recommends you connect it directly to an USB 2.0 port from your board. I do notice a speed difference connecting my Nano from the USB hub in my monitor vs. directly to the back of my PC.

.. OP did not mention hub or monitor... and is not complaining about speed...
