Are all USB 2.0 hubs the same?

Just plugged an ipod into a machine with a four port usb 2.0 hub (GE) and ALL the USB devices disappear/reappear in the device manager every five seconds; the mouse moves on and off like an electric train with a slinky bouncing and shorting the tracks.

NOTE: Only devices hanging on the hub are affected when this happens. If the mouse is moved to the machine all is well. Computer only has *2* hispeed usb (2.0) ports though.

Will a seven port hub correct this?

Is it a powered hub? If it is, it will have a battery, or be plugged into a powerpoint.

If it's not powered, it may be that your devices are trying to draw more than the 500mA that a single port can supply to the hub. IF this is the case, you will need a powered USB hub. These generally cost more and need to be plugged into the wall, but it should hopefully fix your problem.

And a 7 port hub almost has to be powered. That is a mjor diffewrence with 4 port hubs - some are - some aren't. The good ones are.
