Me and my friend were just having a discussion about Star Wars stuff and this came up. Are all the Strom Troopers in all the SW movies clones of the one guy?? He seems to think that the later Storm Troopers (episodes 4-6) were just regular recruits and not clones, but I think they all are clones. What's the scoop? I know somebody in here will know.

Thanks!!

Why not? Ever since Princess Leia first saw Luke in the Stormtrooper outfit and exclaimed, "Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?" people have always said they were clones...

those are clone troopers...they wear slightly different armor.

Clone troopers were the foot soldiers of the republic.

Storm troopers are recruits that the empire recieved from the planets they occupied.

I actually read a discussion about this, it is very possible that a portion of the storm troopers are clones, since in episode2 only a portion (couple hundred thousand?) of the clones were actually done, out of what a million was it? And they also said they could create more, but it would take time. So I"d say that yes some are clones but a large amount of the troopers and others obviously are not clones.

they just arrent.. clones arrent made anymore. Everyone thats in ep 1/2/3 is super old in the last 3 episodes.. they are decades later and the clones are dead

You could read way more about it in the books tho

To me it looks like Episode 2 presented a strong visual case with the similarity in body armor and behavior that they were indeed clones. Makes sense, too, because the facilities at Camino could always generate more on a consistent basis.

Hmm, white armor, thousands and thousands produced at a time, easily replaceable, and Emporor Palpatine inherits the Republic, including its clone armies. Hmmmmm, maybe there's a connection there?

Why wouldn't storm troopers be clones? Are they the same clones from EP 2. No all those clones are probably dead, but there isn't any reason why more clones wouldn't be made. Why not clone? You have an almost endless supply of geneticly<sp?> engineered soliders. Anyway... ever seen a storm trooper w/his helmet off? I rest my case. ;)

If you've been reading the "expanded universe", you will know that the empire goes from planet to planet recruiting soldiers/pilots/mechanics/etc

I'd say no, as you'll find out (maybe) that after the clone wars, most, if not all, Spaarti cylinders (I haven't used the word in a while, sp?) were destroyed, thus to prevent any more clones being made. The facilities were also destroyed, IIRC. Yes, I know there are other methods, such as those discussed in Ep. II, but this is all that I can remember.

Granted, a few cylinders were missed, as evident by the army of Emporer clones later on. But alas, I digress. ;)

Yep, it isn't until the books continue the series that you find out about the cloning technology. Since the technology had been missing for years, it is safe to assume that the storm troopers are just regular joe recruits and not clones.

Remember the game TIE Fighter? They go over everything from the Empire's perspective. I guess its all about marketing because after reading the manual I was like, "Those Rebel scum causing all those problems for the peace loving Empire." Anyway, the main character of the game becomes a TIE pilot and his best friend become a Stormtrooper.

No, not all Stormtroopers are clones. They are usually recruited from planets throughout the galaxy. You need to remember how big the scale of everything is in Star Wars. The fighting that was see in the movies supposidly takes place in the outer rim territories and the inner galaxy is relatively peaceful so there are trillions and trillions individuals from thousands of races to find soldiers. To put that into perspective, on site calculated that there are tens of thousands of Imperial Star Destroyers and going do the scale, billions of Correlian Corvettes (the blockade runner Princess Leia was in in Ep4). The numbers are just mind boggling.

WOW!! Thanks everyone. I never dreamed I'd get this kind of response!!

It's intresting to see everyone's perspective. I've never read any of the books expanding the story. Those books are not written by Lucas and are thus not part of the true SW universe IMHO because the writers can just make up whatever they want to fit their expanded stories.
Maybe some of the Stormtroopers are recruits, but not all of them.

I like to think they are all clones. They are the Army of the Republic that the Emperor turns into the Empire's army. (I love how he's playing both sides!)
If they aren't clones, then why have them all in the suits and helmets that blasters can shoot through anyway?? Why have that kind of uniform and helmet if not to conseal the fact that they are all the same guy underneath? That makes the most sense to me.
When I was watching EP2 for the first time, I remember thinking "wow, the stormtroopers are all clones. That's it. That's how they came to be."

Well, that's what I think anyway. I don't know what happens in EP3 (completely) so we'll see how the fate of the Clone Troopers unfolds then.

If they are all cloned, they cloned the WRONG FRICKING GUY. He has a horrible shot... you think they would have cloned a sharpshooter instead of someone who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if his life depended on it.

in episodes 4-6 at least some of them were recruits, this is easliy noticed because they have different voices.
In episode 2, we are introduced to the clone army, their appearance is made to suggest that they will evolve into the storm troopers. It is quite possible that Lucas is going to re-write Star Wars history, I remember hearing that he is planning on re-editing episodes 4-6 to make the story lines flow better (which could explain why EP4-6 haven't been released on DVD yet).
