Are all socket 478 the same as Northwood?

No. Socket 478 was around for a little while before Northwood was released. There are versions of the lower clocked chips for both socket format. Except for the physical socket interface, they are identical.

Northwoods are available in Socket 478 only.
Willamettes are available in both Socket 423 and Socket 478.

At 1.8GHz, you must specify 1.8AGHz for a Northwood processor with 512KB of L2 cache.
