i know if you look under device manager if it says enhanced then it's 2.0. i see four listings for the usb controller and 3 of them say universal and only one says enhanced. are they all 2.0 or just one port? and if it's just one port, which one is it? i have 4 on the back and 2 on front. thanks in advance!

I'm not really sure how to tell from Device Manager; but I've noticed that my front USB ports don't seem to want to work with any USB 2.0 devices, but all the other ones do....

At least for a Dell machine that I have, the USB ports and controllers are configured in such a way that you have a USB 1.1 controller supporting two ports each and the USB 2 controller supporting every port. So in your case, you would have 3 USB 1.1 controllers and 1 USB 2 controller (precisely what you see in device manager) supporting the 6 ports and the correct controller is used depending on what type of device you plug in.

yeah it is a dell computer i just got at the beginning of this month. so what you're saying is no matter where i connect my usb 2.0 flash drive, it will automatically be used with the 2.0 controller right? if so, thanks!

Yep, every port can be a USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 port.

Yes, normally only one of the onboard controllers will be labeled enhanced.

That's the way it is on the Dell at work and on my home computer. All of the ports benchmark as USB 2.0 using an external hard drive and HDTach.

depends on the case.... my SX600 didn't have 2.0 USB ports (1.1 only), but my HEC case, and the Wavemaster both have USB2.0 ports.

You probably have a Cheiftec, Chenming, Antec, or some other case similar to those don't you? If so call the manufacturer and they will ship you a new USB2 header that actually will run USB2.0 speeds. My case is a Chenming and it had this problem. It said it was USB2.0 when I bought it but couldn't even recognize 2.0 devices. I have heard of alot of people with this problem with this brand of case.

My friend had the same problem when he got his iPod and tried to plug it into the Sonata (I built the machine). The iPod manual said to only use a 2.0 port, and it didn't exactly work out so well on the case ports. I called up Antec and they sent new ports :)
