Are all laptops 40pin?

Sorry I don't know anything about laptop but I was going to buy a ibm travelstar but the guy said by counting there are 44 things, is that different from a 40pin? I need a 40pin laptop and wondering if its just the same thing.
 
I'm sure that I'm not the only one wondering... what 40 pins are you referring to?

Is this the connection out the back for the docking station? I'm looking at mine right now (IBM 600X) and it has an awful lot more than 40-pins on it.
