Are all Hi-speed 2.0 PCI card created equal?

Greetings:

While shopping for a Hi-speed USB 2.0 PCI card, all specifications claim that the transfer speed is 480mb; however, some have Hi-speed picture / icon stamped on the card other don't. Are they all created equal? How can I be sure that I bought the right one that have transfer speed of 480 mbps.

Any insight thoughts and advise is greatly appreciated.

On the host controller card side, you should be safe in assuming that a "USB 2.0" labelled one is capable of doing High Speed transfers. On the device side, things are more marketing driven, plenty of "Full Speed USB 2.0" stuff out there. People just don't /know/ that "Full Speed" is 12 Mbit/s while "High" is 480 ...

not really, but most will work just fine

Some of the cheap ones are based on VIA and ALi's chips, while the better ones, are based on NEC's. But there is no real difference.

Thank you all for your input and advices.

I will get the one without logo for $7 including s/h. The chipset is ALI.

By the way, is there a way to check the transfer speed of the card and the HD MP3 player (used as an external storage HD) hookup to the card?
