Are all Cold Cathodes UV?

I have a Cold Cathode and I just ordered another and I just realized, Are they UV? The website doesn't say they are UV, and I have a hunch that they aren't.

cold cathode will output in the UV range, as well as any color they are designated. The acrylic protective tube they are in filters some, not all, of the UV. UV specific cold cathodes are purple ish.

Cold Cathode is a reference that has nothing to do with the spectral emissions of a discharge lamp.

Hg vapor lamps have differing lines, very strong peaks in the UV-C range of 262 nanometers. This requires a containing vessel constructed of quartz to allow this radiation to pass with minimal attenuation. Vessels of this type are designated for the sole purpose of irradiation (germicidal), curing trays, and low level production of ozone.

Common CCFL's that are found in computer display backlights and decorations used in automobiles and boy racer style computer cases use a more common glass jacket that absorbs the majority of UV-C radiation. Even still, these tubes have their inner walls coated with phosphors which upon excitement by UV radiation will emit visible light with spectral content varying upon the mixture of compounds used in the coatings.

Purple (actinic, bilirubin blue, etc.) lamps give off the characteristic glow and items that fluoresce in the presence of long wave uv radiation will glow brilliantly. This principle has been established for nearly half a century in funhouses, for example.

So, long story short, cold cathodes are made in a variety of colors. Red, yellow, blue, green, white, orange, purple, and yes, UV. Some are even made with multiple colors in a single tube.

NO

What the hell? So you disagree with the posts above yours?

Jeff is listing the flavors they come in which include UV so I'm not disagreeing with him just giving you a straight answer to your question as all cold Cathodes are not UV

But for the most part, CCFL's sold for computer cases are UV, am I right?

If you want a UV one, buy a UV one. 😛

Is there any way to tell if this is UV? http://www.directron.com/ccfltube.html I ordered that, but if it is not UV, I'll change the order.

White, Purple, Red+Blue, Green, Blue

Consider "UV" as a "colour choice." Instead of ordering a "blue CCFL" you want to order a "UV CCFL."

Ok, thats make MUCH more sense in my head. Thank you very much, I will change the order.
