I just replaced a motherboard in a friend's computer. The old board had a tiny 'speaker' on it, and the case itself doesn't have a speaker in it. The new board doesn't have a speaker on it, so I won't be able to hear beep codes until I get a speaker for the case.
I have an old case lying around, with an 8 ohm, 0.5W speaker in it. It has a 4-pin connector on it, and the connector on the new mobo is a 4-pin one as well. Looks compatible to me.
Can I assume it'll be okay to use this speaker? The mobo manual doesn't have an actual circuit diagram (aka "schematic"), so I don't know what resistance (ohms) or wattage is called for.
I just don't wanna fry this nice new mobo, so thought I'd better ask the experts. Any education here would be appreciated.
PS: If it matters, the new mobo is a Gigabyte GA-G31M-E2SL (mATX), Intel Socket 775.
