I am looking for an apartment near UCSD and every apartment I find has a really bad review on www.apartmentratings.com. They'll always complain about noise, management, crappy walls, etc.. Where can I find a decent 1br apartment for ~1000 in UCSD area??

A single bad review or only bad reviews.

It's my opinion that many people will only post "reviews" on those type of sites when they have something to complain about. Very few will post on those sites when everthing is alright.

wow, haha. if you drive, find a house to rent with 2 or 3 other guys out in the mira mesa area. The bus 921 goes all the way to UCSD and it's free with your ID. I can never live in an apt anymore. All the Apt's around UCSD, although very very nice w/ very nice community features, can be loud at night. I used to live in Archstone, which is like a 5-10 minute walk from UCSD down Gilman. I liked that place, but it's pretty pricey. Triest has good prices, but I don't like their management. They are within about 15-20 minute walking distance, but a shuttle picks you up.

If price really isn't an issue, hit up craigslist and look for someone who's renting out a house along bus 30's route down La Jolla.

Why not Costa Verde? Seems pretty nice, but it is pretty pricey. There's an entire new block of apartments further down before the 805 freeway. I'm not sure if the shuttle goes that far though. I have a coworker that lives there, and it is rather nice.

EDIT: crap, 1 br apt for only 1000? Shiet, good luck. I think only Triest has ones for around that price.

I'd much rather look to room with someone, and have your own room. With that, you're looking at spending around $500 (for a house out in mira mesa) to $800ish.

I'm actually not a student and just work near UCSD. My coworker lives in Costa Verde and got her car broken into and there a are a lot of complaints about car theft for some reason on the apartmentratings.com. How much is Archstone and Triest?

ah ic. I'm a staff @ UCSD now, so I can take the shuttles and city busses for free still haha. Last I checked (years ago when I was a student there), Archstone was around $1600-1800 for a 2br, and about $1100-$1200 for 1br. Triest is a good 100-200 cheaper. Heh, don't park on the streets. Most all of my coworkers got their cars broken into when they parked anywhere around La Jolla, lol. Rich, affluent neighborhood my arse.

Where do you work if you don't mind me asking? The plaza where Rock bottom is? La Jolla Village Square?

I work @ campus point which is near genesee/la jolla village dr. dang la jolla might be a lil out of my budget. I might have to expand my search to clairemont as well.. I don't really mind the college/student atmosphere tho since im still young and single and just out of college a year ago.
