Are ALL 9800GTX Video Cards Hybrid Power Enabled?

I know that some of the 9800GTs are Hybrid Power and some are not but how about the 9800GTX?

I purchased my MB for the Hybrid Power support and HD playback on IG. I have build said system around the MB so getting a Hybrid Power enabled video card is a must.

I am considering the EVGA 9800GTX 512-P3-N871-AR that Newegg has for 149.99 but I cannot find anywhere, even the EVGA site, where it expressly say "Hybrid Power".

All of the 9800GTX+'s are Hybrid power capable, and since they're 55nm, and the only Hybid power capable 9800GT I can find is the 55nm eVGA 9800GT, my guess is that none of the 9800GTX's are hybrid power capable, since they're all 65nm.

Thanks!

9800GTX 65nm supports Hybrid Power. And OP, don't forget to install the Hybrid driver for your mobo. Maybe I didn't need to tell you this, but it's just FYI.

Hey, that's good to know. Ought to save garritynet a little money. BTW, keys, do you know for sure if the only 9800GT that supports it is the 55nm eVGA, or is that just coincidence?

There is a Sparkle 9800GT that is Hybrid and 55nm. My brother bought one from Tigerdirect.

I recommend traveling to each graphics card manufacturers web site that you are considering and look at the details for the 9800
GTs. Search for part numbers and make sure they match up and have Hybrid power. Perfect reason why to do this is like this bullet point I found in the description of one of the XFX 9800GTs on the XFX web site.
It lists Hybrid Power for it. But they may have other 9800GTs that do not.

*Requires NVIDIA HybridPower-enabled motherboard. Not available on all 9800 GT models.

Keep in mind that it is not the 65nm or 55nm G92 cores that matter. The microcircuits that enable Hybrid Power can be added or left off the PCB by the individual manufacturer. Technically, an 8800GT/GTS512 could have Hybrid Power, with the proper PCB setup with the micro-circuitry.

The BFG 9800 GT and 9800 GT OC have HybridPower (but not the OC+ model).

A couple of facts about HybridPower:
1) Currently limited to 9xxx and GTX 2xx cards.
2) Not a function of 65nm versus 55nm.
3) Not required by NVIDIA.
4) Notoriously, most 9800 GT do not have it because they are recycled 8800 GT (shhh, you didn't hear it from me ;) ).
5) Small performance hit.

My opinion: Kinda-sorta works as advertised. I wanted to run it in my main rig and did a lot of research regarding this. Many people have had problems getting it to work at all, and when it does work, it may not save as much power as people were hoping. Also, tough to find out about lower performance cards - perhaps it never mattered as they didn't use much power to begin with. I'm going to wait until it becomes a sure thing.

For the OP and anyone else interested, you need to have a HybridPower capable motherboard and video card. Motherboard chipsets are 720a, 750a, 780a, 8xxx for AMD. Perhaps new Intel 9xxx chipsets will support it. Besides chipset, BIOS has to support it and be enabled. You hook up everything as normal, but plug in your monitor to the motherboard's IGP. You are limited to a single display and single-link DVI.

Zap- I am building a HTPC. I want cool and quiet for the most part but I also want to be able to play a game now and then. I figure with Hybrid Power I can spend 95% of my computer time watching movies or surfing the web and when I want that 5% of gaming time all I have to do is start the game up and the 9800GT(X) will turn on and start rendering the game for me. The board I purchased has onboard HDMI. What I want to do is run my monitor off of VGA and have the TV connected via HDMI. Would this work?

I am going to be using the M3N78-VM with the 8300 IG.

AFAIK if you are set up for HybridPower, nothing will display from the VGA output of your monitor.

IMO your best bet would be to use a low power CPU and a video card with a really quiet cooler. For CPU, a Wolfdale Core 2 Duo would be the best. If not overclocking you should be able to run that on a really quiet or even passive aftermarket cooler. For video, the dual slot 9800 GTX, 9800 GTX+ and even GTX 260 all are really quiet under idling (non-gaming) conditions. For the 9800 GT, I know of two upcoming cards that would be great for being quiet, but they're not out yet (really, really soon).

Well I am getting the card last so I can wait.

Still need the case, BR drive and HD before I can get the VC as its the one thing I can run my PC without.

No Intel boards support Hybrid Power yet. AFAIK. He'll have to go AMD.

OP: Hybrid Power is not automatic, "yet". It has to be manually triggered via a tray icon. Very simple. But not automatic yet.

And go AMD I have. I already have:

AM2+ Board
AMD 6000+ Brisbane
Antec Neo Power 550
4gigs GSkill DDR2 800
Xigamatek CPU cooler

I have spent almost $300 so far.

I was hoping to get a BR drive, HD drive and case for another $250 total. After I get all that I need a monitor followed by a video card.

If I can only use one display total, that just gives me an excuse to get a big honkin' HDTV as a monitor.

the new asus board for intel with the 9300 says that it does not support hybrid power due to "chipset limitations". But it does support hybrid graphics (Who cares?)
I am very disappointed with nvidia's lack of commitment to the technology.

The new 9300 was a big disappointment to me as well. I had hoped to be able to go the Intel route but I decided this time around to buy for features that interested me rather than chase after power.
