I'm in the market for a high end notebook (gaming, CAD, engineering aps, etc) and I keep hearing good things about the alienware stuff. I'm always on the move so a desktop is out of the question. Looking to spend $3k to $3.5k.

What do you guys think?

Alienware is DELL now so if you see something you like check it out on Dell Website, might not be as pretty but it will be cheaper.

If you want a really cool notebook check out Voodoo PC.

Alienware has always had problems with heat and battery life. I could go really in depth with this, but in the end you will get the same conclusion, alienware notebooks are usually desktop replacements, always need to be plugged in, and are only to the advantage of on-the-road gamers that don't mind leaving their laptops plugged in all the time. Overpriced also :D Only if this description fits you, would I recommend you buy one.

Just got an Acer notebook with 2.0 Ghz core duo, 2gb of ddr2, 120 gb hd, dvd rw, blue tooth, wifi, built in camera in screen, radion x1600 512 and widescreen for about 2400. I love it! Last alienware laptop I prised was roughly around 4-5k.

Really? Hmm didn't know that. I get a discount from Dell through my work.
I was checking out the Voodoo stuff. Cool stuff, but dang are they expensive.

Yup more expensive than I can afford. Just trying to tell you that Dell bought alienware so DUDE Your Getting A Dell.

On a serious note you can get really nice notebooks from cheaper dealers that work just as well. I only mentioned Voodoo becuase you said $3K.

Thanks dBTelos.

Isn't heat a problem with most high end notebooks?

Unfortunately this description fits me (except for the wanting to pay to much) :p

yep, u wont see me w/ a "personally owned" Dell, thats for sure...and apparently not even Alienware will be suggested by me anymore if they are "in bed" with Dell.. I used to think dell had a great product, till I worked at a place that actually uses a pile of em and having 2/3 (2/3 of ~300 is a lot...) of them die! Now its nothing but h8 towards them. =\

Yeah seeing that AW in in cahoots with Dell scares me. We are always having problems with them at work. But then again our IT dept knows jack about computers...

Not a bad idea, definitely an option worth looking into.

I myself run a Dell 9100 desktop as my work/gaming/neffing system, and couldn't be happier with it, especially considering the price I paid. Much cheaper than building anything remotely similar.

Even the cases were the same except for logos.
I don't know if they are still like that, though.....

Wow these are pretty cheap. Thanks RBBRMADE!

Right now it's between Hypersonic and Sager
