I am looking to get GA-MA78GM-S2H to replace an nforce 570 ultra and a geforce 7900GS card used in my ZFS fileserver. using onboard graphics makes a lot more sense in this regard.

But I am wondering about the woefully short hardware compatibility list of solaris.

Does anyone use solaris (or any of its derivatives like open solaris or nexenta) on a 780G successfully?

Well, theres nothing on the HCLs (http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/sol/ and http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/os/), but that only means that noone has submitted a report to Sun. If I had such a board, I would be more than happy to test, but alas, I do not. Also, a Google search doesn't really seem to turn anything definitive up, but this looks promising: http://www.polywell.com/us/desktop/PolyCenter780G.asp its a media centre running a 780G, and they list Solaris as a compatible OS.

Overall, I would say go for it, you have good odds, but ideally try it before actually migrating your main file server onto that board.
