Question Are 6+2 PCI-E Modular Cables Universal?

Long story short, I bought an "open box" Rosewill 1000w power supply and the two PCI-E 6+2 cables are missing. The seller refuses to send cables. However, I have a PCI-E 6+2 "Y" splitter cable from the old PSU that failed which is a Thermaltake brand.

Simple question: Are all 6+2 PCI-E modular cables from all brand power supplies wired the same? I don't want to toast my video card.

Nope.

There is no standard on the PSU side of the cable, so using other cables than what came with your PSU is a very bad idea.

It'd be easier if I could locate a pinout diagram for the Rosewill 1000w Bronze 80+ PSU. The old PSU PCI-E 6+2 cable is from a Thermaltake 750w (forgot model).

My graphics card specs (EVGA GTX590 Classified) mention that it can use four 6-pin PCI-E connectors. It must have came with an adapter which is long gone.

Four 6-pin PCI-E? Wow, crazy. Must have been from before the advent of the 8-pin connectors. Never seen four 6-pin connectors on one card before.

The card itself didn't come with 6 pin connectors. It was 2, 8 pin connectors. The EVGA card simply shipped with 2, Dual 6 pin to 8 pin cables so you could get the 2, 8 pin connectors needed from 4, 6 pin connectors if that's what your power supply came with.

As to the OP, personally I wouldn't bother with the hassle if there is an option to return it. Those cables could indeed be proprietary and if the seller isn't willing to furnish what the unit came with, then it's not a complete unit.

On the other note, assuming there's some background to this story that prevents you from properly returning misrepresented hardware, have you tried reaching out to Rosewill (Newegg) to see if they could send you a replacement set of cables?

Whoever bought it and returned it must have had trouble locating replacement cables and jacked the ones from this unit.

Rosewill emailed me back with this statement:

"We now have a policy in place where we can sell parts, if available, to our customers with a valid and current Newegg.com account. We will first need to submit a request to our warehouse for availability since we do not carry these parts independently from the item."

Rosewill was kind enough to send me the pinout diagrams for this power supply. I chopped it up to show just the PCI-E 6+2. So here it is if anyone ever needs to know...
