Are 4850 still worth it?

ya a few more weeks? imo 512mb will not annoy you, and you can always resell the 4850's and buy something else in future. Ya sure crysis wont play with full res and effects i hope you dont try to run crysis with any card with full res etc, i played though it on a 8800gts 512mb just fine back when it came out, and never even heard of dragon age. people at are worried about the 512mb limit dont realize you cant play games at max AA with a 140$ card anyway so who cares. Buy them crossfire them and then sell them in future for a diff card

I have turned away from the 4850 in crossfire solution, because i will probably have to upgrade to a newer card in the future and i will have to get a new motherboard that is crossfire enabled therefore the total cost of the new motherboard and the cost of two 4850 cards equals the same as, the price of an 5830/5850

If youve got the money go for the 5850, the 5830 isnt very good value for money in comparison

I wouldnt go for a 5830. Then go and consider a 4890 as a 4890 beats a 5830 and is alot cheaper.

Go for the 5850 and if u need the cash then i would consider a 4890. If ur lucky u might find a 4890 for 130 euro. My vaporx 1gb cost me 130 euros from pixmania.

But i would definetly not go for a 5830. Then just find any 4890. Or pay the price for a 5850.

The HD 5830 isn't a bad card, is just priced too poorly. A card that loose consistently to the HD 4890 by a small margin and being more expensive doesn't make any sense. That card should cost at least $179.99, so it can justify its very little lack in performance compared to the HD 4890 for the fact that's more feature rich. Probably that can't be done since it uses the HD 5870 PCB instead of the HD 5850, that may change in the future hopefully if it didn't already.

1 4850 is in the realm of 1680x1050 or 1440x900. Here, because of the low resolution, frame buffer doesn't matter so much. However, 2 4850s is good for 1920x1080 and even most games at 2560x1600, resolutions which push a lot more pixels and require much more frame buffer for texture and frame data, 512MB becomes a problem.
