I know BX boards have problems with some 256mb dimms, but I'm not sure how you tell.

well this is what i want to check, that if I get a CAS2 256 i wont have some odd problem that only allows me cas3 with it,

currently I have a micron 8e thats fine at 133 in slot 1, but complains above 124 in slots 2-4 and can only cas3 it

I also have a crucial cas2 133 128mb, and i'll use the 8e in another machine - so Im hoping a Cas2 256 will drop in with my cas2 128 in slots 1 and 2 ok.

My BX6-R2 accepts 256mb memory no prob....have 2sticks of 128 and stick of 256, same as you, Crucial PC133 but can't run it cas2@133 setting though. Just like how you mention no problem @124 cas2 but once ya hit 133 its gotta go cas3....gotta be something with the board, no biggie.

thx for the reply, so my hunch is correct then ... thing is, if I put just the Cas2 133 in mem slot 1 then itll be fine at 133/2-2-2 .... I dont suppose youve tried that with the 256 on its own??

No I haven't tried just the 256 stick.....not sure if the memory has anything to do with it, I think its the board...same memory runs @ cas2 on my other system @133. I wouldn't worry about it that much.

Hey MadAd,

I'm seeing much the same thing with my BX6r2 motherboard. I've got 2x256MB Crucial PC133 CAS2 SDRAM modules. Either module alone will run rock-solid @ 2-2-2 on a 143MHz FSB.

In order to use both modules, however, I need to retard the timings down to 3-3-3 -- even at a 133MHz FSB -- otherwise I experience everything from not booting to strage crashes.

Any ideas? I'd love to have my 512MB running at 2-2-2 on a 143MHz FSB, if possible.

Thanks!
