Are 24x blank CDRs worth it?

I have a Liteon 24x drive, and although I could swear I initially burned a few CDRs at 24x using my disks guaranteed at 16x write speed, I subsequently found that I was getting nothing but coasters and dropped down to 16x. I don't get coasters anymore. I usually do CD Copy and am using pretty much the latest Nero.

I'm running out of disks. Should I get disks rated at 24x? Where can I get them? Are they too expensive? Where can I get disks (16x or 24x) reasonably? I live in Berkeley, CA. Thanks...

You dont need 24x cdr! I have plextor 24x10x40, qps 24x10x40, and liteon 24x10x40. They all fine with any media I throw at it. I even tried tdk 8x cdr and sony 8x cdr and they did not have any problem. If ur getting a coaster its not ur cdr but its ur system! It's almost impossible to get a coaster with burnproof techology.

Sony and TDK make good media though. I would certainly suspect the media.
If its cheap stuff rated at 16X, it's probably rated near its maximum limit.

well, my 16x will burn when i say go 24x, but it seems 4:30 isn't as fast as it could be.. ppl have gotten closer to 3min w/ 24x certified. IMO, it's worth it if you REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY need that extra minute (maybe not even).

if you worry about that, you can always buy Fujifilm 24x (some are actually old 16x with a 24x sticker covered) for $10-15 per 50 spindle from Compusa, Bestbuy, etc.
