Are 2 memory sticks better than 1 on Athlon 64's ?

Im now building a new system not and am wondering if you pro's could tell me how much of a difference does two dimms of 512mb have over a single stick of 1GB ? With all these dual channell stuff on the Athlon 64's, Im wondering how much performance I will lose if I go for a single stick of 1GB.

And by the way, I will be going for :

Atlon 64 3000+ (754 pin)
Asus K8N-E Deluxe nforce3 based MB
Xtasy ATI 9600 256MB card
1GB local DDR (Make is never guaranteed here)
SB Live 24bit card
350w psu

I love the A8v Dlx (939pin), but am worried about the ATI-VIA chipset issues. Will the above situation completely change if I go with a Athlon64 939pin CPU and 1 stick DDR ? How much performance is lost in this case ?

Thanks. So the question that remains is:

How much performance do I lose if I go with one 1gb stick on the Athlon64 939 pin CPU and the K8N Neo2 board ?

Going with single channel on 939 vs dual is going to be nothing noticable. Probably only a couple % difference.
