Are 2.4GHz phones better than 900MHz phones?

So, since some ratbastard decided to break into my apt and steal my home phone, I need to throw down some money and get a new one. And being the kind of person that I am, I must absolutely have the newest and most technology advanced phone. But I was just wondering, are 2.4GHz phones better 900MHz phones? Are they supposed to have better ranges? I remember having a 900MHz phone once, and it's range seemed better than the 2.4GHz phone. Also, there are now 5.8GHz phones out now. Are the supposed to have even longer ranges?

Any suggestions on which phone I should get? I'd prefer one that has a digital answering machine, caller id, cordless, and uses normal AA batteries, as those are easy to replace.

Everything interfers with that range. Turn on the microwave, a cell phone whatever it's terrible, they have better range but they sound crappier to me then the 900mhz.

You might want to look into 5.8 Ghz considering you want the "latest." I don't know if it qualifies as the best... :p

That's why you change channels. My 2.4GHz base station sits right near my 802.11 access point, and I had the initial problems solved about 5 minutes out of the box.

Changing the channels didn't work for me.... so I got a new phone.

I think so too. I loved how my other phone took AA batteries. I just swapped out the crappy NiCad batteries for some NiMH and the talk time jumped up from 30 minutes to 3 hours.

that's pretty impressive. I hope I get to do some cool crap like that at the job I land out of college (unlike my cousin who's almost like a secretary at his job) :)

i have a 900mhz spread spectrum and works really well

spread spectrum encodes and decodes in smaller increments for better clarity

I bought the AT&T 5.8GHz 5840 from best buy last night for $179.99. Yeah, I know, not a hot deal. But I just want to test it out. If I like it, I'll just return it and buy it somewhere cheaper online. If I don't like it, I'll just return it anyway. I'll keep you guys posted on how it is.

Personally, I think spread spectrum is more important than the frequency for anything above 900Mhz.

I used to have a Cygnion 2.4GHz DSS phone. Never stepped on my friend's 802.11b wireless toes.

802.11a crosses bands with some 5.x GHz phones though, mind that if you're a lucky SOB and have .11a installed.
