are 1-888-xxx-xxxx numbers free?

i just got a phone number for a job fair thing and it says to call the number for more info...

so is a 1-888 number the same as 1-800?

it's not the same, but it's toll-free.

Yes, 888 was added when 800 numbers were becoming scarce. I believe 877 is also toll free, but not sure.
